Q. How will my incident reports be used?
A. The CRIT research team will aggregate all users’ incident reports to identify trends in crash and near miss incidents and the contributory factors involved. This information will be used to inform the development of interventions to enhance cycling safety.
Q. Will my personal data be displayed anywhere?
A. No, all submitted data will not be identifiable in the App
Q. Can I use the App if I am under 18 years old?
A. No, you will not be eligible to use the CRIT App.
Q. What defines a ‘crash’?
A. Any event that occurs whilst cycling that results in injury or property damage. This can include collisions (e.g. with other vehicles, cyclists, or infrastructure), falls from the bicycle, or animal attacks.
Q. What defines a ‘near miss’?
A. Any event that occurs whilst cycling that the cyclist perceived could result in injury, fatality, or property damage.
Q. How much does it cost to use the CRIT App?
A. The CRIT App is free to download and there is no charge for use
Q. Can I delete the CRIT App
A. Yes, you can delete the CRIT App via the ‘Settings’ tab and clicking on ‘DELETE ACCOUNT’. Your account will be removed, but any data you have previously submitted to CRIT App will remain in the national incident dataset in a non-identifiable format.
Q. What kind of smartphone do I need to use the CRIT App?
A. The CRIT App can be used on Apple or Android phones
Q. How can I provide feedback on the CRIT App?
A. You can provide feedback and suggestions for the app by emailing crit@usc.edu.au and/or rating the app on the Apple or Google Play store.
Q. What happens if I do not activate my location services?
A. You will be able to use the CRIT App without the location services activated. You will be required to type the address of the incident into a text box.
Q. What happens if I do not agree to provide consent or agree to the Licence and Collaboration Agreement?
A. You will not be eligible to use the CRIT App.

Q. Do I need to enter the hours I ride per week into the CRIT App?
A. Yes, you need to enter the total number of hours you ride each week by using the ‘Riding Log ‘ tab at the bottom of the home screen, even if you have no incidents. The novelty of CRIT is that it calculates an incident rate which is based on the total number of incidents and the total number of hours cycled by CRIT App users.
Q. Can I use the CRIT App for mountain biking?
A. Yes, CRIT collects data for off-road incidents and on-road incidents.
