Navigating Complexity: Metacognitive Awareness and Instruction for Enhanced Decision Making In Human-AI Collaboration
Jorge Alvarino Diaz is a PhD candidate at the Centre, where his research focuses on the impact of metacognitive awareness and instruction on outcomes generated by human–AI systems. His PhD is supervised by Professor Paul Salmon and Professor Gemma Read, and is supported by a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship.
Jorge has previously completed a:
- Bachelor of Industrial Engineering at Universidad de Cordoba (Colombia)
- Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Business Management at Corporación Universitaria Lasallista (Colombia)
- Master of Business at the University of Notre Dame Australia.
Jorge is also a Digital Technology Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). His current work focuses on the responsible and safe integration of AI technologies across Air Force capabilities.

- Human-AI collaboration
- Metacognition and Epistemology in the age of AI
- The role of Artificial Intelligence in distributed cognition systems
