The aim of the study
The aim of this research project is to describe and understand the on-demand gig economy rider delivery system in Victoria, identify the network of factors that influence rider behaviour and safety (specifically, crashes), and identify initial recommendations for interventions to reduce risk.
This study has been commissioned by the Department of Transport and approved by the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Ethics Committee: A211620
Participation and Eligibility Criteria
We are inviting individuals who meet the following criteria to participate:
Delivery riders
Delivery riders (i.e. bicycle/scooter riders) are individuals who are currently working as a delivery rider, reside in Victoria, Australia and deliver perishables and/or consumables via any gig economy platform (for example, Menulog, Uber Eats or Amazon).
Please click here to view the Research Project Information sheet (RPIS) for detailed information about participation.
Stakeholders
Stakeholders must currently work in a role that has an influence on deliver rider behavior and safety in Victoria; are responsible for designing and implementing incident prevention strategies within road safety; or have knowledge of human factors and systems thinking methodology. For example, stakeholders may have held roles within:
· industry peak bodies, regulatory agencies (e.g. transport councils), unions, or government departments (e.g. local councils, road safety authorities or national road safety groups),
· gig economy platforms / delivery companies (such as company management and staff, including delivery riders)
· road safety research groups or consultancies
· advocacy groups for gig economy workers and other road user groups (e.g. trucking, cycling advocates).
If you choose to participate, you will receive an introduction to systems thinking and the use systems thinking methods to improve your understanding of the on-demand gig economy rider delivery system, and the network of factors that contribute to delivery rider behaviour and safety (specifically, crashes).
